On Friday, June 4, the official launch of the reallocation of the Wolf from Piata Romana to Lipscani street took place in the presence of the mayor of Bucharest, Sorin Oprescu and the counterpart in Rome, Giovanni Alemanno. The event brought together citizens of Bucharest, as well as important representatives of the Italian community in the Capital. The statue is the symbol of ties between Rome and Bucharest, depicting Romulus and Remus fed by She Wolf, who are said to be the founders of Rome. But the history of she Wolf is not known by everybody:the statue has been given by the Bucharest Municipality of Rome, in 1906, when it was celebrated 25 years since the coronation of King Charles I and the 1,800 conquest anniversary of Dacia by the Romans.
The initiative to move the statue in a new location belongs to Bucharest City Hall, which has explained that it would have a better visibility for people passing Lipscani street.
